High Rise has been designed to be inclusive and accessible, including for those with additional needs, and we are pleased to have two innovative, state-of-the-art sensory rooms within our centre in Lisburn.
The sensory rooms at High Rise Lisburn are open Thursday-Sunday, providing a welcoming space for everyone, whatever their age or ability.
The spaces can be adapted to meet a range of needs, whether that’s playing with sensory toys, engaging with the stimulating equipment within the rooms or just simply taking some time away from the noise and activity in the rest of the centre. We strongly recommend guests to pre-book the sensory rooms at High Rise, prior to visiting.

The sensory rooms at High Rise Lisburn may be booked for individual or group use. Guests are strongly advised to pre-book to avoid disappointment. Please note that parents and carers always remain responsible for the child(ren) or adult(s) they are supporting.
Sensory Room 1 is our larger multi-sensory room. Sensory Room 1 sessions last for 45 minutes and start on the hour eg 10am, 11am etc. If you choose to book an open session, then other guests may also book to use the room at the same time as you. Alternatively, you can book an exclusive session meaning that the room will be unavailable to other guests.
Sensory Room 2 is our smaller multi-sensory room. Sensory Room 2 sessions last for 30 minutes and start on the half hour eg 10.30am, 11.30am etc.
A booking for Sensory Room 2 costs £10 – this is for exclusive use and is suitable for one small group / family (up to 3 people).
We have implemented a very small price increase to some of the activities within High Rise, effective from Monday 2 October 2023, as a result of rising costs. Read more here.
Sensory for babies classes take place in Sensory Room 1 at High Rise, led by our sensory assistant, and making use of the state of the art sensory equipment within the room, such as the bubble tube, projector and lighting. During the classes, babies, along with a parent, explore a new theme each week, such as under the sea, journey into space and over the rainbow.
The classes are suitable for babies from around six weeks old up 9 months (or crawling age) approximately.
Classes take place in 6 week blocks and should be pre-booked. They include some free time to explore the sensory room after the class activities, and a cup of tea or coffee is provided.

The installation of the sensory rooms in High Rise has been funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. This has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players. On behalf of those who will benefit from these facilities, we are very grateful for their support.
Thank you also to Leckey, a local Lisburn-based company, that designs and manufactures equipment for children who have a disability who have loaned specially adapted chairs for use in the sensory rooms at High Rise. These are designed to assist children with low muscle control to sit up and enjoy the space.
We are also grateful for support through Start Here, an employment and skill initiative funded by the Rank Foundation.
Our sensory assistant Julie brings guests on a journey from arriving at High Rise to the multi-sensory rooms – helping guests to prepare for their visit to the centre.

We know how important it is to be prepared for your visit to the sensory rooms at High Rise, so here is some further information to help ensure you and all our guests can have a great experience.
We want everyone to enjoy their visit to High Rise and have attempted to create an environment that is as safe as possible. However, the very nature of the activities means that accidents can occasionally happen. We cannot therefore accept responsibility for injury or damage to guests or their clothing whilst using the sensory rooms. Parental/carer supervision is essential.
